WEEK 19: Achievement Unlocked: Bible Bash
Buenos Dias!
I hope you all had a good week this week. This week was kind of long but it also flew by.
I had 2 exchanges this week. One with another Gringo and another with a Latino Elder From Peru. I stayed in my sector both times for our exchange and it was super awesome.
Our Area is doing well too! We have 1 person on date for baptism and we have been trying to put someone else on date but she just started a new job and just happenes to be working when we try and visit her. BUT we'll figure something out.
The other day we got into a bible bash. My companion and I were sitting on the side of the road, updating our day, and this lady comes out of no where and just starts talking smack about religion. I kindly said, "Thank you for you time and kind words, nice to meet you, my name is elder johnson and this is my companion." I was trying to leave the situation because the spirit wasn't there so there was no point in talking. I thought my companion and I were on the same wavelength but no, Instead of introducing himself he started pulling out his memorized scriptures of the bible. Sigh. After 5 minutes i finally convinced him to leave. Afterwards he said it was a teaching opportunity but the lady wasn't willing to listen and was talking about her religion and trying to prove why she was right. It was a bash lol.
This week we had lunch at one of our converts house and her husband wasn't home so we couldnt go inside. (we cant enter a house unless there is a man over 18) We were bummed as she pulled out 2 chairs for us and we had to eat outside. Eventually, it was a blessing in disguise, Because the chicken that she cooked us wasnt cooked all the way through so we were able to feed them to the dogs in the street.
Lastly, My spanish has improved a lot this week. I can finally start to follow along and understand other peoples spanish. I cant undertand everything but i'm getting there.
Spiritual Thought:
My Favorite Book of Mormon Prophet is Enos, and I got to read it again this past week during my daily personal study. (Its a lot of scripture but its worth reading)
4 And my soul hungered; and I kneeled down before my Maker, and I cried unto him in mighty prayer and supplication for mine own soul; and all the day long did I cry unto him; yea, and when the night came I did still raise my voice high that it reached the heavens.
5 And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed.
6 And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away.
7 And I said: Lord, how is it done?
8 And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole.
I love the part where enos asks god, "How is it done?" and god replies, "Because of thy faith in Christ" We can do all things. We can overcome every challenge or hardship in our lives if we have faith in Jesus Christ.
